About K9 Bane Hero Foundation

The K9 Bane Hero Foundation began as a grassroots effort to fund medical bills for retired K9 Bane, who was diagnosed with Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) in 2022. Now we are a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping working K9 handlers financially and emotionally navigate healthcare and medical assistance for their aging partners.

Our non-profit aims to help both civilian and sworn working dogs, including police, military, corrections, SAR, fire, and security. We also want to promote healthy and responsible breeding to prevent diseases such as DM.

Holly McManus

President, Founder, K9 Bane’s Mom

Holly McManus has been in law enforcement for 17 years. She started the K9 Program for the City of St. Francis (WI) Police Department with K9 Bane in 2014.

Jason Laird

Board Member, K9 Bane’s Dad

Jason Laird has been in corrections for almost 20 years, currently serving as a Correctional Captain. He began his K9 career early as a trained agitator (decoy) for the K9 program at the facility he was employed with.

Karie Klinger

Board Member

Karie has a long history of training working K9s, especially German Shepherds. Now a breeder and kennel owner herself, Karie brings a wealth of knowledge about working lines and genetic issues faced by these breeds.

Katie Westog

Treasurer

As a lifelong dog owner and long-time friend of Holly McManus, Katie was thrilled to join the K9 Bane Hero Foundation as its treasurer.
